Some Important Notes to Know while Choosing a Water Softener
You may have heard of a lot of things about water softener and its functionalities. But do you know how a water softener actually works? Let’s have a look at some important notes that you must know before buying a water softener.
The basics of water softener
A water softener is an effective home appliance that eliminates minerals like magnesium and calcium from hard water. Water softeners use a process namely ion-exchange in order to soften water. Ion exchange is done by passing hard water through the cylinder in the softener containing food grade, small polymer beads that are commonly known as resin. The magnesium and calcium of water get attracted to this resin beads and get attached to them releasing sodium ion. Once the resin bed cylinder gets saturated with magnesium and calcium ion, it should be regenerated. Water softeners produce a brine solution that is flushed through resin beads of the cylinder to eliminate the minerals calcium and magnesium ions in the process. This solution is flushed down the drain and doesn’t allow entry of water. Once the process of regeneration is completed, your water softener again gets ready to continue with its regular process of softening water.
